Tulsi Vivah is the joyful wedding of the tulsi plant with Lord Vishnu as Shaligram or Krishna. Homes decorate the tulsi like a bride, sing wedding songs and share sweets, and the wedding season begins. Here is this year’s date and the evening time for your city.
Meaning and story of Tulsi Vivah
Tulsi is revered as Vrinda, a woman of great devotion. Her story ends with Vishnu promising that she would be worshipped forever and that he would wed her each year as Shaligram. So the tulsi in the courtyard becomes a bride once a year.
For many families who do not have a daughter, performing Tulsi Vivah is felt to carry the joy of kanyadaan. Mostly it is a cheerful evening: songs, a little mandap of sugarcane and a shared feast.
Puja vidhi, step by step
- Clean the tulsi pot; decorate it with a red chunri, bangles, bindi and a small mandap of sugarcane.
- Place a Shaligram or a Krishna idol beside the tulsi.
- In the evening, perform a short wedding: tilak, garlands, haldi, and tie the two with a sacred thread.
- Take seven rounds (pheras) around the tulsi carrying the Shaligram, singing mangal geet.
- Offer sweets and seasonal produce; share prasad.

How are these dates worked out?
Every festival is fixed by a rule: the lunar month, the paksha, the tithi, and the part of the day (such as pradosh, madhyahna or nishita) in which that tithi must fall. Our engine finds the next time that happens from the sidereal (Lahiri) Sun and Moon and computes the muhurat from your city’s sunrise and sunset. Dates are checked against Drik Panchang. Where traditions differ, such as Smarta and Vaishnava reckoning, we say so above; your family custom or local priest always comes first.
